RE: UPCOMING MARCH DATES

Dear Parents and Guardians,

March is going to be a short month due to the Spring Break, but we have some fun events planned this month. The Grade 3/4s will be gone for most of the last week of school in March due to a camping trip at Blue Lake Camp. We ask that parents ensure that students are properly prepared to participate with warm clothing, snow gear and warm bedding (an information sheet and permission form were sent by their teacher already). Swimming Lessons will continue every Tuesday morning for the Ks to 2s and every Thursday morning for the 3s to 6s (with the exception of the Blue Lake week for the grade 3/4s). We ask that parents ensure that students are at the school on time for the swim days because the bus will leave right after breakfast. If your student is late, they will be left behind.

·         Tuesday March 5th- Grades K to 2 have Swimming Lessons at the Kimberley Pool from 9:00am- 11:45am. / Grades 4, 5 & 6 Basketball Game @ Home Vs. Highlands (last game) from 3:15pm-4:15pm (please ensure that parents/guardians pick up players after the game @ the school gym).

·         Wednesday March 6th- Grades 5/6 will be going to Laurie and Parkland for a Middle School transition visit. / The Grades K to 2 will be OUTDOORS for Winter Wonder. Dress Warm.

·         Thursday March 7th- Grades 3 to 6 have Swimming Lessons at the Kimberley Pool from 9:00am- 11:45am.

·         Sunday March 10th- Daylight Savings Time takes effect. Turn Clocks Forward and Hour.

·         Tuesday March 12th - Grades K to 2 have Swimming Lessons at the Kimberley Pool from 9:00am- 11:45am. / The Grade 3/4 Class (and some Gr. 5/6s) will be leaving for Blue Lake Camp around 9:30am. Please reference handout and permission forms already sent home for details.

·         Wednesday March 13th- Grade 5/ 6 have Cross Country Skiing at the Kimberley Nordic Centre.

·         Thursday March 14th Grade 5/ 6 have Swimming Lessons at the Kimberley Pool from 9:00am- 11:45am.

·         Friday March 15th- The Grade 3/4 Class will be coming back from Blue Lake Camp before the bus run around 2:30pm.

·         Monday March 18th to Friday March 29th- No school due to the Spring Break. School starts back up on Monday April 1st.

RE: HOT LUNCH MONDAY FEBRUARY 11th

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The school will be having a Hot Lunch Day on Monday February 11th. This is a Fundraiser for students to participate in with the proceeds going toward funding Alex’s Outgoing Kootenay Warrior Contest. He currently holds the “Kootenay Warrior” title and will represent at the Standing Arrow Powwow in July. If you have an event that requires fundraising, please contact the school to discuss participating in a Hot Lunch fundraiser.

FITNESS FRIDAY- FRIDAY, JANUARY 25TH

We are excited to offer our fifth Fitness Friday session this week. Students will participate in physical literacy games and craft centers during the morning and will be heading to the Kinsmen arena for skating in the afternoon. We are looking to secure family volunteers to help tie skates and help on the ice. Please contact Marisa if you’re able to help out:

Students should plan to be at their bus stops at the regularly scheduled times.

Students need to be prepared with the following items:
- non-marking indoor running shoes (to be kept at the school)
- loose-fitting athletic attire
- layered clothing

- skates and a helmet (bicycle helmets acceptable)

RE: UPCOMING JANUARY DATES

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the New Year! We hope that you had a great Winter Break with lots of time spent with family and friends. ʔaq̓amnik’s first-ever Basketball Team will begin their practices and games on Tuesdays after school from 3:15pm-4:15pm. Basketball will include students from the Grades 4, 5 & 6. If your child will be on the basketball team, please ensure that they bring their non-marking inside shoes and gym strip every week, as there will be practices every Monday and Thursday during school hours, in addition to the games on Tuesdays after school.

·         Wednesday January 9thGrades 5/6 will be going to Laurie Middle School for a “Transition Visit” from 9:30am – 12:00pm.

·         Thursday January 10th- Grades 4, 5 & 6 start Basketball Practice from 1:00pm-2:00pm (please ensure that players have gym strip and non-marking shoes).

·         Friday January 11th- Grades K to 2 will be taking a fieldtrip to the Cranbrook Superstore 9:40-11:30am.

·         Tuesday January 15th -Grades 4, 5 & 6 start after school Basketball Practice/Games from 3:15-4:15pm. Games with SD5 start on Tuesday January 22nd and will be on every Tuesday at 3:15pm until February 26th. (Note: It’s possible that not all of the Grade 4, 5, & 6s will be participating).

·         Wednesday January 16th Grades K to 2 will be taking a fieldtrip to the Cranbrook IRIS 9:40-11:15am.

·         Every Wednesday in January (16th, 23rd, 30th) Grades 5/6 will be participating in “Wild Wednesdays” (Please ensure that you check your student’s agenda for details).

·         Friday January 18th- The Speech and Language Pathologist and the Occupational Therapist will be visiting the school. If your child is receiving SLP support, please ensure that they are at school on this Friday.

·         Wednesday January 23rd - Grades K to 2 will be taking a fieldtrip to the Cranbrook Train Station 9:50-11:30am.

·         Friday January 25th - The Whole School will be participating in Fitness Friday. Please ensure that students are dressed appropriately for physical activity indoors and outdoors.

RE: ANNUAL SCHOOL CHRISTMAS PARTY INFO

Dear Parents and Guardians,

 The Annual School Christmas Party will be on Wednesday, December 19th this year. The agenda for the evening will include: a dinner, a winter-themed presentation of a Ktunaxa Legend and the Operation Christmas Elf (where students wrap a special gift for their loved ones). To know how much food we will need to make, we will need to know how many family members will be attending and whether or not you will need a ride to and from the School Gymnasium. Please fill out the form below.

 We have attached the Swimming Waiver Form for Grades K to 6 for parents to fill out and return to the school. Unfortunately the K-4s won’t be taking swimming lessons in the New Year. More information will be sent out closer to the date.

Just a Reminder that Thursday December 20th is a HALF DAY and will be the last day before Winter Break. School will start up again after the break on Monday January 7th.

RE: Upcoming December Dates

Dear Parents and Guardians, this fall has flown by incredibly fast! Welcome to the last month of 2018. We would like to remind families that if they are participating in Operation Christmas Elf they can drop off their donations at the school.

Days to Add to your Calendar:

·         Wednesday December 5th- The Kindergarten to Grade 2 class will be outside learning about Micro Invertebrates. Please ensure that they have weather appropriate clothing (winter jackets, snow pants, gloves and hats please).

·         Every Wednesday in December (5th, 12th, 19th) Grades 5/6 will be participating in “Wild Wednesdays” (outside all day). On Dec. 19th the Gr. 5/6 class will be going to Fairmont Hot Springs. Please ensure that students have their swimming suits, towels, warm hats for afterwards, etc.

·         Friday December 7st- NO SCHOOL due to a Pro D Day (focus on bullying).

·         Wednesday December 12th- The Kindergarten to Grade 2 classes will be going Bowling in the Morning and be back for lunch.

·         Friday December 14th - The Whole School will be participating in Fitness Friday. Please ensure that students are dressed appropriately for physical activity indoors and outdoors.

·         Monday December 17th- Tri 1 Report Cards Go Home.

·         Wednesday December 19th- Grades K, 1/2 and 5/6 will be going to Fairmont Hot Springs and Grade 3/4s will be staying at the school (Unfortunately the K4s won’t be going. Other arrangements for the K4s will need to be made if they do not go to the Daycare). Please ensure that students have their swimming suits, towels, warm hats for afterwards, etc.

·         Wednesday December 19th- The School will be holding its Annual Christmas Celebration from 6:00pm – 7:30pm in the School Gymnasium. Dinner, Performances & Operation Christmas Elf. More information will be sent out closer to the date.

·         Thursday December 20th (HALF DAY) – The Last Day of School before the Christmas Holidays will be a HALF day, with students getting out at 12:00pm. The Bus will be taking the Reserve-students home at 12:00pm and the Town-students home at 12:15pm-12:20pm.

·         Friday December 24th – Friday January 4th – The School will be CLOSED for Winter Break. The school RE-OPENS on Monday January 7th at regular scheduled times.
